Waiting...

I was blessed by a friend today. Nothing out of the ordinary, just an invitation to come over and hang out at her beautiful home, drink coffee and work on some Christmas crafts. As we worked together we talked about the usual things, but as so often happens, we got down to the deeper issues just as it was time to part. She asked, "What is on your heart...how can I pray for you?" I shared...and then she shared...and as I've been thinking about it since, I realize that although we have very different circumstances, we are both experiencing a desire to hear from God. We are both waiting on God to speak, to direct, to rescue. It occurred to me that we do spend much of our time waiting and wanting God to do something. We seem to think the ball is always in His court. He is ultimately in control of our circumstances and holds our very lives in His hands, but He doesn't seem to intervene or inform in the way might like.
We want Him to act, to answer, to speak. And we wait. In the midst of the waiting we can tire and lose hope that there will be an end to our pain.

So what are we to be doing during the wait?

"I am waiting for the Lord, my soul is waiting for Him, and my hope is in His word." Psalm 130:5

"Now may the God who gives comfort and strength in waiting make you of the same mind with one another in harmony with Christ." Romans 15:5

Waiting is hard, but we should not lose hope and we have to realize that God hears our prayers and is at work. While we wait we are to worship Him, serve Him, love Him and trust Him and continually encourage eachother.

I am so grateful for friends who are willing to pray with me concerning my needs and rejoice with me when the waiting ends and God answers those prayers. May God comfort you and keep you no matter what you're waiting for.
