Change...Summer's End

Change...life is made of it.

Nothing stays the same. All things are in a state of flux. Even when something seems to be rock solid...when given enough time, the rock will shift.

I have never liked change. I endure it because there is no choice most of the time. Just when you get the hang of something it's finished.  As soon as you learn the way by heart, the road changes. About the time you get your towel in the perfect spot on the beach, the surf comes up and soaks it.

And even so, we pick up or towel, wring out the water, hang it on the back of our chair and let it dry. We push through, roll with the changes, and hopefully we learn and grow.

God knows all about the changes, I think He allows them. His desire is not for us to stay where we are, but for us to stretch, grow, learn to endure and be stronger.

Psalm 46
 1God is our refuge and strength,
    an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
    and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
    and the mountains quake with their surging.
 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
    the holy place where the Most High dwells.

God is within her, she will not fall;
    God will help her at break of day.
Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
    he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
The Lord Almighty is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Come and see what the Lord has done,
    the desolation he has brought on the earth.
He makes wars cease
    to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
    he burns the shields with fire.
10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
    I will be exalted among the nations,
    I will be exalted in the earth.”
11 The Lord Almighty is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Yes, even in the changes of life, God remains our fortress, the One who never changes. We can know He is steady in the wind and rain, constant in the shifting times, our hope even in times of darkness and loss.

Our times are in His hands, (Ps 31:15), so we can roll with the changes.
