Golden Boy

July 2, 1989.  It is the day that John Andrew Murray was born. Twenty-three years ago he came into this world, and he didn't take the easy way. He made an entrance that began 3 months before the appointed day and time. He's always been a unique individual, not one to do it anyone else's way.

Earlier in my pregnancy with John, I had what we thought was routine blood work done. Read about it here. What we didn't know was that they were tests meant to show evidence of certain birth defects. We also didn't know that these tests had a high incidence of false positive results. If we had only known...we would have avoided the tests altogether and therefore avoided the genetic counseling, amniocentesis, and worry that we might go into premature labor. We didn't know we could have avoided all of that. But God knew everything and he carried us through it all.

John Andrew Murray was born 3 weeks early, by way of emergency C-Section. He scared us pretty good.  He was as perfect as a baby could be. At 7lbs and 2ozs, he was beautifully formed and he DID NOT have spina-bifida, as was suspected. As a matter of fact the nurses thought  he was the cutest thing ever. They called him "Golden Boy". I called him a lot of things, "Sweet Potato", "Wobbie", "Baby Boy". My Dad, (who he is named after), called him "Jay-bee Baby". I tried to call him John-John for about a hot second. Little Michael started calling him Jay-Jay. That got shortened to Jay, and that one stuck.

This child has been a great source of joy for me. He is a passionate person. He has great ideas and definite opinions. He can be argumentative, a trait he got from me. So yes, we have gone around and around verbally many times, but we always come back to our love for each other.

He has always had my whole heart. Isn't it interesting how you can give your whole heart to more than one child? God has designed  us to do that somehow.

Jay is a man of many interests and talents who has walked down a side road or two in an effort to find out for himself who he is and where he belongs. God kept him safe and led him home. I am so proud of this godly man who is fiercely loyal to family and friends, and who serves to help keep my life interesting. I am proud to be his Mom.

Little Jay-bee, Baby. I love you.
Deep as the sea and wide as the sky.
Happy Birthday.
