Mud Sale

I went to something called a "Mud Sale" today. There was lots of mud, though none of the mud was actually for sale, tee hee. It was a huge outdoor (and therefore very muddy) auction, with tents lined up containing everything from cameras to mason jars. There was an entire tent filled with Amish crafts,
one with plants and many open areas where people were bidding on farm equipment. Hundreds of people were milling around enjoying the food, the weather and the carnival atmosphere. It was a great time to take in the scenery and mingle with the locals, most of which were Amish. Ordinarily it is understood that members of the Amish community do not like to be photographed.
They believe photos can lead to pride and invade their privacy. They think photographs violate Exodus 20:4: "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
I suppose I may have violated the code...but I certainly wasn't invading anyone's privacy, so I tried to be as discrete as possible while attempting to get a few good captures. A big "thanks" to my sweet niece, Staci for inviting me along and tipping me to bring my camera. She's so smart :)

  1. Such beautiful pictures. Looks like you two had great weather and a great time. Wish I'd been there! Do they have mud sales in the fall?
